How to Travel to Paris on a Budget

July 15, 2019 by Jeremy

If you’ve been considering booking a trip to Paris with companies like JustFly and assumed that you have to spend a small fortune in order to enjoy a memorable trip to Paris, think again. As it’s possible to have the time of your life in the city of lights, without putting a dent in your bank balance.

How to Travel to Paris on a Budget:

1. Enjoy a picnic in a scenic spot

As Paris features countless scenic spots, it’s well worth purchasing a few inexpensive ingredients for a picnic, which you can enjoy on the grass in front of the Eiffel Tower or on the banks of the River Seine. Alternatively, Paris also boasts plenty of classic French gardens, which make the ideal spot for a picnic.

If you’re wondering where to purchase your ingredients from, you may want to visit a local French bakery, where you’ll be able to pick up a baguette or a croissant and a standard French grocery store where you’ll be able to purchase ingredients like French cheese, salad, and ham.

Lastly, as Paris is known for its chocolate and sweet treats, you may want to purchase a French pastry, a macaron or some French chocolates, to end your picnic on a sweet note!

2. Hire a bike to get around

As Paris is easily navigatable by bike, you may want to look into hiring a bicycle to get around Paris, quickly and efficiently. As a bonus, you’ll see far more of Paris on a bike, than in a taxi or rental car.

3. Make the most of Paris’ world-class metro system in order to save yourself money

As Paris features a world-class metro system, that’s affordably priced, it’s a great idea to get acquainted with Paris’ metro system on your first or second day in Paris. As you’ll save hundreds of dollars by riding the metro system, instead of booking Uber rides or catching taxis to get around Paris. Better yet, most of Paris’ tourist attractions are located within a short walk of one of the metro’s stops.

4. Consider renting an apartment for the duration of your stay in Paris

Instead of choosing to stay in an expensive hotel, it’s well worth considering booking an inner city apartment instead. As for the price of staying in an expensive, hotel in the center of Paris, you’ll be able to stay in a charming Parisian apartment for several days, instead.

Furthermore, if you plan to explore Paris for a few weeks, you’ll find that the price per night which you’ll pay to rent a private apartment, will decrease even further.

One of the benefits of renting an apartment, instead of opting to rent a hotel room is that you may get a chance to befriend local Parisians. As an example, if your apartment complex boasts shared on-site facilities such as a garden or a gym, you may get to chat to a few locals.

5. Consider backpacking in Paris to stay in Paris on a tight budget

If you don’t mind staying in simple, comfortable accommodation, you may be interested in the idea of staying in a highly rated backpackers. Just be sure to do your research ahead of time and to read recent travelers reviews of each backpackers that you’re interested in to ensure that you make the best possible choice.

6. Plan out all your activities online before you fly to your destination

If you go to the trouble to plan out a detailed itinerary, which lists out the attractions which you’d like to visit as well as the activities you’d like to book, you’ll be able to hunt around for the best online prices for each activity and attraction ahead of your time. Which should save you hundreds of dollars as its usually a lot cheaper to purchase your tickets online ahead of time, instead of waiting to purchase your tickets in person.

7. Explore visiting Paris in winter

Visiting Paris in winter is a great idea as Paris is just as magical a destination in winter as it is in summer. As an example, imagine getting to ice skate in Paris or getting to explore a Parisian Christmas market!

So if you thought that traveling to Paris on a budget was impossible, think again as its possible to have fun in Paris, no matter how big or small your travel budget is.

My name is Jeremy and I used to be a pretty high-up chef in New York City. I worked at a few high scale restaurants and loved it for many years. But then it began to feel like something was missing. After a short trip to Thailand, I knew what I had to do.

I came back to NYC, gave my work notice, packed up and headed out to the road. Since 2015, I've been backpacking around the world (and eating everything!!!). Thankfully with all the walking I do traveling, I've only gained a few pounds hahaha. Read More…
