How Helmets Help In Reducing Head Injuries

March 16, 2018 by Jeremy

In most motorcycle accidents, injuries to the brain and neck of people are the two main causes of death and disability. In European countries like France and Britain, on an average head injuries were the leading cause of death for 3 out of 4 individuals which were involved in a motorcycle accident whereas this figure reaches to 9 out of 10 individuals when it comes to low per capita income Asian countries. Head injuries and their treatment will burn a hole not only in family savings but also exert a high toll on any countries health care costs and in turn its economy.

There are two ways by which brain injury can be concurred during a motorcycle accident: through direct impact of any surface on head and through extremely high force experienced by the brain of the individual due to sudden deceleration. These both different methods leads to different types of injuries. When a biker is thrown off the bike during an accident and his head hits any surface such as ground, the skulls movement is stopped but the brain inside the skull is still under motion and it strikes the front skull.

Brain doesn’t stop here but then it actually rebounds to hit the back of the skull. Depending on the speed of the biker during an accident, the surface to which one collides and the angle of contact, this can lead to minor head injury to a fatal death on spot. However the injuries that are caused from sudden deceleration can be again divided into two categories: open or closed brain injury. Most devastating of all injuries is the closed head injury in which no part of brain is open but yet still blood is flowing from inside.

There are number of safety procedures one must follow and equipment’s one must wear in order to decrease chances of being in an accident or if they get into one then to save themselves. One can even online buy these equipment’s from bikebandit.com. Leather jackets are often associated with the bikers and not just because it looks shiny but also because they have protective padding on elbows and shoulders and one must at all-time wear a good quality protective leather jacket.

Wearing sturdy shoes and gloves with better grip can also come in handy on road. But the biggest and best way to protect oneself during a motorcycle accident is to wear a helmet. Wearing big motorcycle helmets are the best way to prevent oneself from chances of incurring a head, brain and neck injury during an accident. You can check out for motorcycle helmets on sale online and go for one as per your budget.

Safe and big motorcycle helmets not only decreases the deceleration of the head and the brain motion but the shock absorbing material inside the helmet reduces the impact and increases the reaction time at which the brain comes to rest. Not only helmets prevents the direct contact between the head and the surface but they distribute the forces of impact over a larger surface area thus decreasing the pressure which otherwise would have incurred by the brain if there was no helmet. So, if you are heading on a road trip any time soon be safe and protect your head.

My name is Jeremy and I used to be a pretty high-up chef in New York City. I worked at a few high scale restaurants and loved it for many years. But then it began to feel like something was missing. After a short trip to Thailand, I knew what I had to do.

I came back to NYC, gave my work notice, packed up and headed out to the road. Since 2015, I've been backpacking around the world (and eating everything!!!). Thankfully with all the walking I do traveling, I've only gained a few pounds hahaha. Read More…
