How To Save Money On Beer

July 19, 2019 by Jeremy

Hands up if you are a beer lover. You are not alone! Nothing beats the feeling of a cold beer down your throat after a long, hard day. A bottle of beer can lift your sagging spirits. However, no matter how much you love your beer, it can get pricey, especially if you are inclined to drink now and then. This means that it can be difficult to have great beer without breaking your bank. But it does not have to be that way. You don’t need a side hustle to enjoy your favorite drink. Why not save money, keep your wallet sober and enjoy your killer brews by following these following tips?

1. Buy Beer in Bulk

The number one tip on saving money on beer is buying in bulk. It will get you some nice discounts. Most stores will offer a 5-10% discount when you buy beer in six or 12 cases. This is way cheaper than buying a single bottle. However, you need a storage space that is dark and cool. This is because beer especially one in glass bottles get degraded quickly when exposed to light. Do you want that? Definitely not! Your basement or garage can act as a storage place.

2. Drink at Home

Drinking your beer at home is the second way of saving tons of money on beer. It is cheaper than drinking at a bar or a restaurant where prices of beer are high. If you purchased beer in bulk and managed to get a bottle at $1.50, the same bottle would be $5 at the bar. Do the math and see how much drinking at home can save your money. If you still enjoy going out with friends to a club, why don’t you invite them to your home? You will still have fun and spend less money on alcohol.

3. Take Advantage of Happy Hours

Many clubs and bar-restaurants have happy hours’ time when drinks and foods are discounted. If you love going out, this is the time you and your friends should plan to meet. You will enjoy your drinks at a discounted price. There are several apps you can have on your phone that can help you know when a certain bar has a happy hour. Happy hour depends on the restaurant or a bar. Some have scheduled their happy hour either late at night or early in the morning, especially on weekdays. Also, many bars offer deals like coupons and it’s good to take advantage of the deals. You can search online for bars with such good deals that will save your money.

4. Order Cheaper Beer

You may think that cheaper beers are not of good quality. But sometimes these expensive beers are overpriced for no reason. According to a recent consumer report that test beers, a cheaper beer known as Coors ranked top beating other expensive beer brands. If you don’t like the idea of cheap beer, you can have your first two bottles of your preferred beer. If you want to continue drinking and you are already feeling the effects, switch to cheaper beers. This will save you a few dollars.

5. Choose Beer on Tap or House Liquor

Imported beer is always expensive than beer on the tap. Choosing house liquor will save you money. Also, order for simple drinks while you are at the bar at night. You may order an expensive drink and since the bartender is busy, your drink won’t be mixed properly. You end up paying for an expensive drink that does not taste as good and may even contain less alcohol.

6. Don’t Buy Your Beer on Saturday

Saturday is not a favorable day to buy your beer. Prices are higher than other days of the week. According to the shopper-rewards app Ibotta, you are likely to pay 9% more for your beer on Saturday than on a Monday. Save money and buy your beer on days when it’s cheap.

7. Buy Pitchers Instead of Shots

If you are at a bar with your friends, buying shots for everyone is expensive. Instead, buy a pitcher and share, and you will save money. Rather than having one shot, a pitcher may contain more beer where you will have more than one glass per person.

8. Go Duty-Free

Some places like airport duty-free shops have some great deals as goods are not taxable. This means that you can buy your favorite beer at a very cheap price. Also, if you have a family or friend in the military, you can buy beer at a very cheap price since it is not taxable. Take advantage of these duty-free places and save money.

9. Drink Less

Drinking is fun. However, spending too much money on something you will enjoy for a few hours and tomorrow is gone can be financially draining. Track your drinking budget and if it’s too high, start drinking less. Use an alcohol spending calculator to know how much exactly you spend on beer in a week or a month.

Drinking is not cheap and you don’t have to spend a lot of money either. Applying these tips can save you tons of money on beer. Always remember to drink in moderation and know your limits.

You can save even more by purchasing bulk beer with coupons.

My name is Jeremy and I used to be a pretty high-up chef in New York City. I worked at a few high scale restaurants and loved it for many years. But then it began to feel like something was missing. After a short trip to Thailand, I knew what I had to do.

I came back to NYC, gave my work notice, packed up and headed out to the road. Since 2015, I've been backpacking around the world (and eating everything!!!). Thankfully with all the walking I do traveling, I've only gained a few pounds hahaha. Read More…
