Riverside Apple Dumplings

Every year for a fundraiser, the Riverside SDA School sells Apple Dumplings. The students of the 6-8th grade all get together and make tons of them and have a Apple Festival to sell them. (there's 11 of them this year in that classroom - its a small school). They are DELICIOUS!

6-8 Large Golden Delicious Apples (peel, slice thin, sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon) My sister has an apple corer/peeler/slicer that makes a big circular slice through the apple - one big spiral of the whole apple - makes it easy!)

2 cups flour
1t salt
1t baking powder
3/4 cup shortening (cut into above mixture)
1/2 cup milk

Divide dough into six or eight pieces and roll each separately as you would for pie crust.

Place apples in center of circles, then "purse" sides up around apples. Then turn upside down in glass baking dish.

Cover with sauce.

For sauce, boil just until sugar is dissolved:
1 cup sugar
1/2t cinnamon
1/4t nutmeg
1/2 cup margerine
1 cup Water

Bake at 375 degrees for 40-45 minutes until golden brown. Enjoy!
