Easter Ham

Why pay extra for one of those *honey-baked* hams for Easter? This is easy, and much less expensive...as most supermarkets have spiral-sliced hams on sale this time of year...for as low as $1.88/lb.

This recipe is originally from "The Woman's Day Cookbook".

For the Glaze:

1/2 cup apple jelly
1 Tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves

Melt the jelly in a small saucepan, or in the microwave. Remove from heat and whisk in all remaining glaze ingredients. Let cool

For the Ham:

1 (7-9 lb) spiral-sliced ham
Pineapple slices for garnish (optional)

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Stand the ham, cut side down, in a roasting pan, and bake for 8 minutes per pound (about 1 hour or so).

Take the ham out of the oven and increase the temperature to 450 degrees. Brush the ham with the glaze, and return to the oven for 7-10 minutes...watch carefully to make sure it doesn't burn! Remove from the oven and let stand for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Place the ham, on its side, on the serving platter, and garnish with the pineapple (if using).

Serves 12. Save the bone, as well as any scraps, to make split pea soup (recipe coming next week!)
